NOVA is Bucks County’s only rape crisis center and was first established 50 years ago. The organization helps and advocates for victims of all ages of sexual assault and other serious crimes in Bucks County. It held its annual gala called “A Starlit Evening” on April 19th. The gala was held at Spring Mill Manor, in Ivyland, and also honored NOVA’s 50th anniversary. It was attended by 350 supporters and over $300,000 was raised. The funds will go to support programs and services to help victims of crime and prevent violence through training and education.
Generous support
The gala, NOVA’s largest fundraiser of the year, was made possible by the generous support from benefactors, sponsors, and community members. One of the sponsors was Parx Casino, which relaunched its PA online casino not long ago. Ron Davis, director of Diversity and Community Development at Parx, attended the gala. Sponsor EC Fence, Shining Star sponsor Merck, and Twinkling Star sponsor Stark & Stark, attorneys at law, were a few of the local businesses that signed up.
Penny Ettinger, NOVA’s executive director, voiced how grateful she was for the support that made the 50th anniversary so special. She said the contributions will help NOVA to continue offering specialized services for crime victims for many years to come.
NOVA’s role
Every year, the organization provides free and confidential services to over 2,500 victims of crime and their family members. It supports, counsels, and empowers victims of sexual assault and other serious crimes. Its prevention education programs reach 26,000 students, teachers, and parents. NOVA’s services are made possible through the financial support of federal, state, and local government grants and contracts. It is also assisted by corporations, foundations, and private donations.
Today, NOVA also houses the Bucks County Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC). The CAC is a multidisciplinary team of law enforcement and community groups. It provides a child-centered approach to child abuse and has helped many children and their families with support and resources to help them heal.
NOVA 50th Fund
This fund honors the past 50 years and will help to support the organization’s ongoing needs, preparing it for the future. The financial success of the event has given the fund a good start. It has raised $106,000, and an anonymous donor will add $50,000 to the amount. Hopes are to raise $1 million this year. Sponsors and others who contributed to the success of the event were an example of what giving back to the community means.
Emcee and performances
Karen Gross, speaker, singer, and founder of She Rocked It, was the special guest emcee for the evening. Gross was honored to collaborate with NOVA on this event. There were performances by The Zone, Westrick Music Academy, and pianist Kaysey Buschmann.
Dinner, a silent auction, and live music and dancing
The atmosphere at the event was magical, and people were happy to support this worthy cause. They could enjoy a four-course dinner, a beer and wine bar, a silent auction, and live music and dancing. Prize packages included gift baskets, travel experiences, jewelry, paintings, vacations, etc. Players who enjoy online sports probably appreciated the opportunity to win sports tickets and signed sports memorabilia.
Thanking supporters
NOVA’s 50th anniversary celebration also involved thanking staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners who have supported the organization over the years. Without this support, the organization wouldn’t be able to do what it does so successfully in Bucks County. Michelle Cash, Director of Development at NOVA, says that supporters help the organization to stay innovative, strong, and available.
