What do you get when combining a degree in Product Media Management, a techy-savvy outlook that has come to define the Millennial generation, and an innate passion for the cryptocurrency ecosystem? If these traits can be summed up in a typical CV, the name at the top would be David Sencil.
After having graduated from the University of Maryland, Mr. Sencil quickly gained fame throughout various social media circles thanks to his matter-of-fact way of explaining complicated cryptocurrency concepts to his online audience.
This is the very same reason why we wanted to speak with him about a topic rarely covered in mainstream investment circles. Why has communication become more important than ever before, and how can this trait be used by those who wish to bring the latest altcoins to market? Mr. Sencil was kind enough to take time out of his hectic schedule, and to provide his insight.
Defining “Communication”
“We need to remember that there are many ways in which we can choose to define communication. So, we must first view this concept in relation to blockchain-based products such as memecoins, NFTs, and altcoins.”
“Creators often become bogged down in technical concepts such as market capitalisation, tokenomics, and similar jargon lost on the average listener. I believe that they should instead convey their long-term vision. What makes this asset different from the rest? What types of tangible purposes does it serve? In other words, why would a trader become involved?”
He goes on to state that white papers alone are no longer sufficient to convince an audience that any type of token is worth a potentially long-term commitment.
“I often use my LinkedIn profile to keep ahead of the latest cryptocurrency news. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come across a promising NFT only to be bombarded with complicated mumbo jumbo. While this might appeal to seasoned analysts, it will hardly whet the appetite of a novice trader who is more interested in a single term: profit.”
Brevity is Not Always the Soul of Wit
David Sencil represents what some industry experts have referred to as the “next generation” of cryptocurrency specialists. He is not interested in sensationalism, the number of followers he gains over a certain period of time, or how many shares his Bitcoin-related news posts garner. His main intention is to provide the public with cold, hard facts backed up by solid information. However, this does not necessarily signify that his perspectives lack flavour.
“Think of meeting a trusted friend at a local restaurant, and asking him about a recent NFT that he has become involved with. I doubt that he would give you a formal presentation. He’d instead highlight why he was initially interested, what makes the token stand out, and his personal opinion on the prospect for long-term growth.” Mr. Sencil continues. “He wouldn’t be trying to ‘wow’ you with flashy promises, and he won’t be attempting to sell you an idea. He is instead providing you with a basic rundown so that you can make your own decision.”
He also believes that there is nothing wrong with injecting humour or wit into the equation when appropriate. While there is always a time to consult verified research, the main point is to obtain the “big picture” through effective communication.
The Link Between Product Media Management and Cryptocurrencies
We were curious to learn how his skills as a product media manager translate into the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrencies. Mr. Sencil points out that both markets are associated with rapidly changing conditions, they are heavily focused on developing a well-rounded sales plan, and communication is vital when launching a novel idea.
“This is even more relevant when discussing new tokens that are soon be be launched,” he stresses. “Even if the fundamentals appear to be strong, there’s a big difference between a speculative venture, and one that’ll provide a healthy return-on-investment.”
In other words, tokenomics serve little purposes if they are not properly explained. This is when a decidedly down-to-earth approach should be embraced. He uses yet another analogy to strengthen this point.
“I’d never purchase a new car from a salesman who relied on complicated terms alone to demonstrate his seemingly ‘superior’ knowledge. I instead prefer direct conversation, candour, and transparency. These very same traits are often lacking within contemporary cryptocurrency circles.”
Speak Clearly, and Others Will Listen
Effective communication is vital within a decentralised financial ecosystem that continues to rapidly transform. Considering the head-spinning number of NFTs and altcoins which currently inundate the marketplace, clarity is the ultimate key to success.
